Small Plastic Challenger Niger Seed Feeder
Challenger niger seed feeders share many of the same features as the Defender range, but owing to the plastic rather than metal ports, bases and caps, are available at a much lower cost. However we recommend that they be used in gardens without squirrels.
Rich in oils, niger seed is popular with Goldfinches and Siskins.
Challenger garden bird feeders are designed to withstand the extremes of British weather, the seed tubes are made from UV stabilised polycarbonate, the feeder ports are much smaller designed to stop this fine seed from escaping. Challenger niger seed feeders are purpose made to be dismantle for easy cleaning.

Squirrel Resistance
Challenger wild bird feeders offer no defence against squirrels.
When using C J Wildlife wild bird feeders with the new perching ring ports, our experience has shown that birds appear to be much more relaxed when feeding. This enables the food to be consumed quickly, leaving the perching ring free for another bird much sooner - a real bonus when there are lots of hungry birds awaiting their turn.
Hygiene and Cleaning
Challenger niger seed feeders can be taken apart for regular cleaning.
- Undo the nut and bolt that holds the ports together and pull out from the tube.
- After removing all ports, gently squeeze the tube and remove the base.
- Lift the lid and pull the hanging hook out of the tube one side at a time.
- Gently squeeze the tube to remove the plastic bale.
- Each component can then be thoroughly cleaned and reassembled.
